Governor Chris Dawson is correct when he admits that Governor James Stirling was involved in the Pinjarra massacre on 28 October 1834. As he is Western Australia's current Governor, he should apologise on behalf of the many state Governors who have ignored Stirling's role in the strategic military style ambush of Pinjarab Noongar men, women, and children.
Noongars believe the actual number killed will never be known, but oral histories suggest that the number is more likely to be in the dozens, not 15-20. Will Governor Dawson also take responsibility for the involvement of his own settler ancestors in the massacre of Wardandi Noongars at Lake Minninup, on 26 February 1841? Our first state historian Bert Kimberly described the massacre as one of the 'most bloodthirsty events ever committed by Englishmen' in the colony.
