The City of Fremantle acknowledges the military execution of Noongar leader Midgegooroo. On 22 May 1833, Noongar leader Midgegooroo was unlawfully executed by a Trooper firing squad outside the Perth Jail. Allegedly he was involved in the killing of two settlers, but the Affidavit evidence did not come from any eye witnesses. There was no trial, no defence and no cross examination of the prosecution witnesses. This was colonial justice in the 'Wild, Wild West'.
Governor Irwin who led the Galup massacre of more than 20 Whadjuk Noongars in 1829, gave the final order for execution in front of the Legislative Council with the crowd baying for blood. Afterwards many Noongars were randomly shot in the colony . There was then and now 'No justice and no mercy' for Noongar people.
